Janet N. Dane, age 71, of Vanderbilt, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord. Janet was born on December 30, 1941 in Detroit, MI to Jesse and Ruth (Haas) Shaw. She married Leland Dane on September 8, 1962. Janet worked for the predecessors of Independent Bank for a number of years, as well as the Hale area schools. She and her husband moved to Vanderbilt after her retirement in 2003. Janet was very involved with the Gaylord Area Council of Arts, as well as was a member of the Northern Michigan Artists Guild. Charlotte R. Johnston of Lewiston, age 85, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012 in Grand Blanc, MI. She was born February 24, 1927 in Detroit, the daughter of Charles and Rose Nimock. Charlotte married Charles Johnston February 1, 1947 in Detroit Michigan. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2006. Charlotte and Charles moved to Lewiston in 1987 from Wixom. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, Lewiston VFW Ladies Auxilliary, Lewiston Lakes Quilters Club and St. Francis bowling league. Benaway, Roy Obituary
Roy M. Benaway, 77, of Gaylord, loving husband, father, friend and grandfather, died on May 13, 2012. Roy was born on March 4, 1935 in Cheboygan, the son of Max and Marjorie Benaway. On April 5, 1958 he married Glada Jensen who survives. Roy and Glada had two sons, Gerald Roy, who preceded him in death on January 9, 2005, and Lyle (Donna) Benaway of Gaylord. Roy was a pioneer in oil and gas law in northern Michigan, an exceptional gardener and landscape artist, a dedicated, honorable, legal professional and an eloquent speaker. John (Jack) Ramsby, 85, of Alanson died on May 11, 2012 at Tendercare of Gaylord. Jack was born on November 22, 1926 to Donovan and Verna Ramsby in Alanson. He began his career with his fathers’ well drilling company, Ramsby Well Drilling when he was 10 years old. Upon returning from serving in the US Navy in WWII, he started Alanson Well Drilling and operated that company until 2000. He enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, playing his guitar, gardening, baking bread, family cookouts and coffee with long time friend Joe Parkey. He was a great procrastinator. Lloyd Phillip Stice, 86 of Gaylord
passed away at his home on Friday, May 4, 2012.
Born to Orville and Isis Stice on June 4, 1925 in Lawrence County, Illinois. Lloyd enjoyed time spent with his family and friends and his favorite tea-cup poodle, Poppins. A World War II veteran, Lloyd served our country for 2 years fighting in the infantry division in the Philippines. Lloyd began working at age 17 alongside his father in the oil fields. Together they moved their first oil rig by means of horse and trailer.

Kim Jacobs, age 57, of Gaylord died Friday, May 4, 2012 at McLaren-Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Kim was born on August 3, 1954 in Ferndale, MI. to Calvin “Doug” and Beverly (Lucier) Jacobs.
She attended school in Royal Oak, moved north to Vanderbilt, and graduated from Vanderbilt High School in 1972. Following graduation she attended NCMC for one year. Kim was a very giving individual and cared for many children throughout her life. She was very involved with the Michigan Democratic Party, and worked numerous elections both down state and up north.
