Karl J. Heidman, Sr., age 81, of Gaylord, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Tendercare. Karl was born February 13, 1928 in Navarre, Ohio, the son of Otto and Ruth (Lemon) Heidman. He spent his childhood years in Ohio, and then joined the United States Army, serving during WWII. Karl liked to watch wrestling, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Katheryn; children, Rick (Sonya), Roger, Sherry (Herb), David (Misty), Karl Jr. (Lisa), Kristine (Dan) Minor; 22 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, including Dayton and Liam. Mrs. Mary Brandly, age 80, of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009. She was born November 27, 1928, in Ann Arbor to Howard R. and Ester M. (Crawford) Wesley. Mary was married to her husband Raymond Brandly for 63 years. She was a member of the Chub Lake Association for 24 years. Mary enjoyed reading mysteries and spending time with her family. Mr. Paul F. Bensie, age 91, of Gaylord, died Saturday, June 27, 2009. Mr. Bensie was born in Scalp Level, PA on June 28, 1917. He spent most of his life in the Detroit/Hazel Park area. Mr. Bensie served in the United States Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He enjoyed gardening. Caroline Elanore Impellizzeri, age 91, passed away peacefully at Northwood Village Adult Foster Care Home in Elk Rapids. She was preceded in death by Don, her husband of 55 years and her eldest son Donnie. She is survived by her four sons, Thomas (Monica), Tony (Cindy), Chad (Val) and Steve. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Buni; eight grandchildren, Brian, Cindy, Heather, Jacob, Mike, Spence, Angelina and Sarah; and six great grandchildren. Dorothy A. Huesner, known to her friends in Fort Wayne, as Annie Scheerer, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Michigan. Annie was born in Massachusetts on April 13, 1924 and as a child moved with her family to Brooklyn, New York, where she lived the majority of her life. In 1970 Annie moved to Fort Wayne and worked at the Pickle Restaurant for more than 20 years. Her hobbies included all types of crafts. Mrs. Barbara A. Jackson, age 71, of Cheboygan, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Jackson was born in Howell on September 13, 1947, the daughter of Leo and Ruth (French) Cameron. On May 6, 1954, she married John Jackson, who survives. Barbara lived in Cheboygan for the past 13 years, and was a member of the Bible Church in Mackinaw City. Mr. Floyd V. "Vern" Dunham, a lifetime resident of Vanderbilt, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at his home. He was 55. Mr. Dunham was born June 22, 1954, the son of Floyd and Alberta (Ealy) Dunham. Vern enjoyed fishing, mushroom picking, working on his vehicles and watching NASCAR. He loved taking rides in his truck and racing remote control cars. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandkids, especially fishing at Wildwood. "Noah, especially, was the grandkid that never wanted to leave grandpa's side." Mr. Charles E. “Chuck” Hornshaw, Jr., age 67, of Gaylord, died Monday, June 15, 2009. Chuck was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 23, 1941. He lived most of his life in Washington and also for a short time in Montana and California. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Chuck and his wife moved to Gaylord in 2007 and attended the Pigeon River Baptist Church in Vanderbilt. Chuck enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and tinkering with cars. Mr. David Robert Shaffer, age 56, of Boyne City, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. He was born in Freemont, Ohio on August 30, 1952, the son of Robert and Iretha (Jaqua) Shaffer. Mr. Shaffer grew up in Northern Michigan. He graduated from Vanderbilt High School in 1970 and spent a lot of time at the Lake Louise Methodist Camp in Vanderbilt during his youth.
